Just in case anyone hasn't caught on, I am addicted to 'ranging. We went again this morning, and although it was unfortunate I only had half an hour to play, I again had WAY too much fun. I feel like a young plucky duck from TINY TOONS saying "I wanna flush it again." Yes it is that fun! I can't wait until mine get here, I may just have to become a morning person.
If nothing else, it helps me get my mind off my problems. As I told Abra, some things are good because they ask you NOT to think too much.

Contrary to my post on Mandy's blog yesterday I have discovered that crack on one's Cherios is a very goood way to start one's day. Better than caffeine. Here is what I remember.
Where are Linus and Abra... there are lots of soccer fields... over here?... MMM SOCCER PLAYERS... now I'm just driving.. there they are.. I should follow them, dirt roads suck.. whatever you do don't break it.. Give it a flick.. how do you flick it?.. I can't I'm left handed.. 3/4 circle isn't bad for your first time..we have a solution for lefties, shoot them?... too much angle...that was so catchable, PUSSY... too high.. KITTY FOUND A MOUSE!.. the object of the game is to get close to the pin.. catch it like this.. my body has no memory.. you think too much.. you know these things never were used for hunting... that was so catchable, PUSSY... now you really have to fling this one... be a man for one morning.. one more throw... you know, we could paint yours rainbow and pink - it'd be your own syle.. this is fun we should do it more often... one last game.. let's play suicide.. the object is to have lots of catches... I caught it.. you saved the team today... you know, supposibly you can glue these back together.
Then I went to work an hour late. Too much fun.. if you care what I am talking about.. check the trackback and avid followers may have the topic come back on them.

A Great Speech
Monday, July 26, 2004
I just finished watching President Bill Clinton speak at the Democratic National Convention, and I remember why I believe him to be among the most talented polititians of my time. I have a lot of reasons, but I am quite sure I can convince most people who would disagree with me that at least I am not insane by mentioning this one fact. Bill Clinton is the only man who achieved the office of presidency whom I am proud to have lived in his America. Of course I was born in 1981 and the people he would be competing with are Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II. Not too fair.
However, this is not truly the reason for my post. The reason for my post is this one little teeny weeny fact that makes me more angry than the idea of passing a Gay Marriage Amendment. Bush II pulled America out of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty! BUSH II has put forward a program to develop 2 NEW Nuclear Weapons! BUSH II has said since 9/11 that we will not be afraid to ATTACK FIRST! My friends, and mine enemies, we have got to get this wacko fucker from Texas out of office before he does something we CANNOT take back!

My Book List
As a member of the flock, I too feel compelled to publish what are my current top reads. This took a fair amount of soul searching, but I feel I have it narrowed down. They are by no means ranked, as figuring out the six was hard enough.
#1) Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. - This book actually comes from the Sword of Truth series, however it was easily my favorite. The others simply did not keep me as entertained. It comes from a great series about three worlds, all influenced by magic and all separated by barriers. That is, until the barriers begin to fall. Everything from erotic detail to magic and battle scenes are included. It has always been a quick read.
#2) The Harry Potter Series. - some may debate the appropriateness of the series, but what the heck, 's all good fun. I am currently working on them for the first time, and have had a problem putting any of them down. I am on book 5.
#3) War of the Witches - This book chronicles the journeys of a young anthropologist as he studies an indigenous Aztec culture in Mexico. He discusses becoming adopted into their native tradition by both a shaman and a she-woman and the immense lessons he learns. Only by uncovering the truth behind an old inter family feud will he realize the true nature through which some people have used witchcraft. If anyone in the paga-wicca-shama-druid community needs a lesson in ethics, this book is a perfect read. For anyone else who wants a great story, largely assumed to be fictionalized, it is still a quick, easy, short, and entertaining read.
#4) Always in my top 5 reads will be Plato's Allegory of the Cave. While I know this is not a book, it was probably one of the most eye opening pieces of literature I ever came across.
#5) W.E.B Du Bois' The Souls of Black Folk, is hugely uplifting, and immensely empowering. Anyone who is even thinking about becoming an activist should read this man's words. Let me show you a piece of my favorite passage. "It is wrong to encourage a man or a people in evil-doing; it is wrong to aid and abet a national crime simply because it is unpopular to do so." I read these words for the first time as the Marriage Amendment debate was heating up.
#6) And now while, I do not actually have "a" book that stands in this place I have a genre of books. In my coming to terms with myself as a gay man I found that there are several books out there answering the questions about who gay people are and what gay people have done. As a history major/buff this was cool. So I am placing books like Gay Essentials: Facts for your queer brain and Is it a choice, in my #6 position. I keep one on my desk at work, and I have several of them at home.
There ya go. Stay tuned for more next time, when I LOVE TO READ strikes back.

Just when you thought it was safe to come out

Reality TV has apparently done one better on itself by creating a show about an Amish family. It is called.. wait for it... Amish in the city.
Now, if you take a look at the picture you will find out why I am already interested, but there are several other reasons to get excited. Evidently one of them is a "bad boy" earring and highlights in tact he will be telling us about how he left the faith, came back, was re-baptized, and then left again. Another woman is apparently caught smoking and has her hair colored.
So many things I can do with this, I am just going to leave you to your own devices.

time for my bad day
Monday, July 19, 2004
I am not going to get into why my day truly is bad. I really am not comfortable blogging it. I vented to Mandy and that is enough for me.
The icing (punny) on the cake for me today however, was pop tarts. I went to the machines to get pop tarts for breakfast, and much to my dismay the pop tarts on top in both machines were cherry and Smores. Below those were strawberry and brown sugar cinamon, respectively. My favorite in the world is Strawberry, and I do like my BS/Cin tarts as well. Maybe I can have one of them tomorrow. As for me, I am going to choke on smores. Like any good gay boy.. I DON'T EAT CHERRIES!
Today's lesson - sometimes it is the little things that get you down too.

There's a bright golden haze on the meadow
Thursday, July 15, 2004
Too many times we forget about blogging on days when we are having a good time, or when "everything's going our way." We blog when the plumbing breaks in the spare bedroom, or when we find ourselves challenged beyond belief. I am breaking from that tradition today. I am going to tell you all about my fantastically fabulous day, because if I can't gloat here, where can I go?
Start of day, wake up at 6:30. Not because my alarm went off, not because the room was too hot or too cold, not because someone splashed me with cold water, and not because I needed to be anywhere. I woke up at 6:30 because I had enough sleep and my body was ready to start my day. Did I get anything accomplished in this time? Hell No! But I was able to enjoy a quiet morning to myself with birds flying outside my window and the sun slowly overheating the earth.
I didn't really get moving until say 7:30 or so, as I had to yet get ready for work. But the shower was lovely. There were no drastic hot or cold spikes as are often the case in my apartment. And my hair had that just cleaned with a new shampoo feeling after only one washing. I didn't even need my conditioner this morning. I had time to shave, which I have not for several days. And I got back to my old toothpaste, so hopefully my breath will be better than it has been as of late.
I rode my bike to work, and as a result was a little late, but the breeze whipping over my body as I flew down the hill from my house was something magical. At work we had a meeting about the future of the project I work for. These are generally not happy events. Today we talked about how we were going to be able to do more work than previously though, the script that I (along with others) have been working on got the "this is right on track" from the boss, and I get to work full time as long as I have things to do! YEAH!
This day calls for a lesson. I apologize to Jim and Linus for so blatantly ripping off their gimmick, but it is necessary. Today's lesson - Take time to notice the small things, for some (and maybe even you) they can make all the difference in the world!

So you may be wondering just where exactly I found those wonderful little banners I just added to my blog. Click the link, and you too can make one of this nation's most powerful of policical statements!
BTW - I just learned that Sweeden as well as Canada accepts political disidents from the US. If bush (caps intentional) gets re-elected I will be moving to Europe!

Elections
Thursday, July 08, 2004
So, I haven't quite decided who I would vote for in the next election. (Extreme sarcasm) You know with the no child left behind act, faith based initiatives, my job being in jeopardy for abstinence only education, the first "first term" president to loose jobs since Hoover, and the FUCKING CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT banning gay marriage I thought someone else might want to check this out too. I ordered a bumper sticker, a button, and a sign. :D Did I mention that they have a blog! It is what I linked to.
Bush has a blog to, and in the interest of fair and balanced reporting I thought I would offer you today's story. (I am so not linking!)
"Citizens of this country for mere minutes, and they already expressed their support for President Bush. At the naturalization ceremony in Tucson, Arizona this family celebrated their new citizenship, and demonstrated their support for the President's re-election.
Needless to say, we immediately encouraged them to exercise their citizens' rights and register to vote!! VIVA BUSH!!
- Pima County Bush-Cheney Campaign Voluteers"
I am so not commenting about money changing hands and threats about being sent home. OOps had I said fair and balanced. I guess if Bush can claim to be compassionate I can claim to be fair.

Feces
I was thinking of posting something prophetic today and for inspiration I turned to my fellow blogees. Therein I found that (yesterday) the great Kilted Reverend had, in my opinion, missed a great pearl of wisdom which I would like to see imparted upon the world. I have decided to simply link you there, rather than repeat myself. After all how many ways can you tell someone not to fling feces into the rotary oscillation device. If my pearl of wisdom finds it's way to the top of your "life's little poop sheet" I will have done my job. If I instead make my way onto your own fecal roster to me it will simply be identical feces on a diversified rotation.

I am the STAR SPANGLED Queer
Sunday, July 04, 2004
Let me start with a little shout out to my friends - I think Abra and Linus hit their 07-04 comments out of the park.
And now, a word from your host - Maybe it is just me and this whole coming out process thinggy, but did anyone else notice that PRIDE month ends 4 days before independence day? Just checking.
Actually there are a lot of similarities between PRIDE and this nation's INDEPENDENCE DAY. (at least for me - don't worry I'll stick to the big ones) Number the first, I think a lot of people out there get the holiday wrong. (And I don't mean wrong like celebrating Jesus' birthday on the Yule kind of wrong) In my happy little opinion people could care less that we founded the first nation in the world based on the ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Most people who celebrate our nation's freedom by blowing things up could care less that in our history we have greatly expanded who gets to have life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Post 9-11 that problem comes from the top down. PRIDE is largely treated as the same by people who ask, "so you are proud of being gay?" No FUCKER. I am proud to have the confidence in myself to stand up and let the world know who I am without fear.
Number the second, to me it's about celebrating those who stand up and fight for our freedoms. PRIDE is about fighting for, and celebrating the fight for equal civil rights for all us queers. ID is about celebrating the fact that we can have pride/PRIDE without having to check with the king first. (So let's fire George W. and keep it that way)
Am I oversimplifying this - YES! DUH! If I was to go into this whole discussion I would kill at least one blogger server. Am I going to piss people off. I HOPE SO!
Everyone go out and find one thing that makes them happy to live in America on your day off. For me it was the ability to set with my gay pagan friends, watch fireworks, and say things like "this music makes me crave showtunes" or "look at the bunny, he's so close, that's because we are all so connected with nature."

A story to share
Thursday, July 01, 2004
So while I was setting in my meeting this morning my boss asked me to look for this story about guy who contracted AIDS from blood transfusion on the day he was born. He recently celebrated his 21st birthday! You should totally check out this story.
On a side note. I noticed that the point where the graph (halfway down the article) shows that new cases of HIV began increasing for the first time since 1993 was two years after Bush took the Whitehouse. Cases had not started declining until 3 years into the Clinton presidency. I realize there is a huge list of alternate causality (nerdy debate term) here but it is fun to blame the world's problems on Bush.

Back to some peace and quiet. . for a while
So I was reading through the posts on Linus' blog and noticed Jim said something about becoming ordained. Now he wants someone to proclaim him the high priestess of the flamingo plains or something. It will most certainly not be me! As I said in my response on Linus' blog -"Please I beg on all things sacred and holy - nobody proclaim Jim the high priestess of anything. His ego already has to buy extra seats in coach when he flys. And his Lupe personality isn't allowed into several local restaurants."
I feel it necessary to reiterate this here because, I can. Actually I decided after that post that I probably give Jim a tad too much shit sometimes. I actually owe the big lug more than I could ever express for being a friend, for being there for me as an advisor, and for putting on his Thursday night TV thing. So rather than do my "Jim is annoying because" this week I decided to change the format to once again demonstrate my caring side. (I am not being a shit head, that is an inside joke between papa gay and I)
Congrats on the ordination Jim - you truly are not annoying!
